How Scooters Work

I guess servicing begins with knowing some basics about how scooters
work. They’re not conventional like a motorcycle or pushbike that has a
chain to drive the rear wheel.
Scooters rely on a drive belt and a system called the variator.

This is the rear clutch that holds the belt under tension and drives onto the back wheel.

This is the front inner pulley that drives from the engine.

This CVT drive system means that as a general rule all scooters of the same capacity will accelerate and reach a similar top speed in a similar fashion.

WARNING FLAG: The drive belt and rollers need to be changed every 10,000 to 12,000 kms to prevent breakage which can cause rear wheel lock up, throw you off the scooter, bend engine and/or drive shafts and leave you stranded.
